Magnehelic Gauges

Magnehelic gauges are low pressure differential devices to measure very low pressures between two pressure sources. It works using a capsule bellows element and are suitable for use on clean dry gases. The twin entry onto the unit, high and low or up and down stream will allow the unit to measure the difference between both sources. They can also be used to measure positive, compound or negative pressure. Custom dial markings are often used to allow easy reading.

What is a magnehelic gauge?

Magnehelic gauges are commonly used in the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) industry for measuring static pressure as well as for measuring the differential pressure across applications such as blower pressure, air velocity and differential room pressures.

The simple, frictionless gauge movement quickly indicates low air or non-corrosive gas pressures – either positive, negative (vacuum) or differential. The design resists shock, vibration and over-pressures. Its simplicity makes it a cost-effective alternative to a digital manometer.

How do magnehelic gauges work?

The magnehelic gauge uses an incredibly sensitive diaphragm that responds to changes in pressure. The magnehelic gauge senses the differential in air pressure that is exerted on it. The pointer or dial that is connected to the diaphragm responds to the change in pressure between the two sides of the diaphragm giving the pressure reading. Due to the sensitivity of the diaphragm, the gauge must be level when taking a reading otherwise the diaphragm may sag which can lead to faulty readings.

What range of pressures do magnehelic gauges measure?

Magnehelic gauges are available in pressure units ranging from pascals and inches of water column to pounds per square inch. Individual pressure gauges are designed to measure pressure within a specified range which means that it is necessary to use the correct scale of gauge for the range of pressures that are being measured. S.M. Gauge offers magnehelic gauges in the range of -3000 to +8000 Pascals.
